Chapel of Tomba Brion

Carlo Scarpa, Altivol, Italy, 1973

Scale: 1:50
Materials: paint, plaster
Type: study
Detail: 6/7
Student: Lorenz Wieland, HS25

Three separate plaster fragment-models at 1:50 study the articulated concrete language of Carlo Scarpa's Brion Chapel: a standing column with capital and a gilded accent strip, an arc of paired ribbed wall-panels, and a dissected beam-column joint element. Each piece is cast or hand-modelled in plaster and mounted on a grey cardboard base, with a grey paint or wash applied uniformly to read as raw concrete. The ensemble foregrounds Scarpa's precise tectonic grammar — stepped profiles, ribbing, and interlocking joints — rather than overall spatial composition.
