Bruder Klaus Kapelle

Peter Zumthor, Wachendorf, Germany, 2007

Scale: 1:100
Materials: aluminium, plaster, sand
Type: volumetric
Detail: 5/7
Student: Nils Hegi, FS26

A 1:100 study model of Peter Zumthor's Bruder Klaus Kapelle depicting the tall, roughly pentagonal concrete tower rising from a low plinth. The body is cast in plaster, its surface articulated with horizontal lift lines and a regular grid of small tie-hole indentations that evoke the board-formed rammed concrete of the actual chapel. The triangular entrance portal at the base is rendered in a contrasting metallic material, foregrounding the interplay between the massive wall surface and the pinched opening as the building's key phenomenological gesture.
