Bruder Klaus Kapelle Wachendorf

Scale: 1:50
Materials: plaster, wood
Type: phenomenological
Detail: 5/7

A 1:50 study model of Peter Zumthor's Bruder Klaus Kapelle in Wachendorf, cast in white plaster over an interior armature of tightly bundled wooden sticks that replicate the radiating log-formwork of the actual chapel's interior. The exterior presents the chapel's distinctive tapered polygonal volume with a triangular entry slot at the base and a tear-drop oculus at the apex, surfaces left smooth and monolithic. A camera-down-the-oculus view foregrounds the model's central phenomenological preoccupation: the play of light entering the dark, texture-rich interior cone — the defining spatial and atmospheric quality of the building.
